Ocriculum was a Roman municipality of Regio VI, along the banks of the Tiber river in the province of Terni. The city was destroyed between 569 and 605 during the Lombard invasion, it is to this period that the abandonment of the lower city in favor of the one on the hill is traced back.
The archaeological area (free admission) today develops near the town of Otricoli.
In the approximately 36 hectares in which the Roman center developed, the remains of a large building perhaps used as a warehouse emerge, given the nearby river port called "dell'Olio", the thermal baths dating back to the 2nd century BC, the theater of the 1st century AD. and the amphitheater of the 1st century AD, brought to light already in the first excavations of the 18th century.
