The Hornstein-Grüningen line has existed since 1311 and until today Schloss Grüningen is passed on from generation to generation, which makes it something very special.

The Grüninger Castle was built in substantial parts of its present appearance in the late Middle Ages.

In its place stood before a donjon from Hohenstaufen humpback crawls, which have preserved in the east of the present castle building on two floors and are still clearly recognizable today.

After partial destruction in the Thirty Years' War, the castle was restored in 1686, while the second floor in the half-timbered built and expanded structurally.

The entire castle complex, consisting of the castle, outbuildings, the former patronage church (Catholic parish church of St. Blaise), is now a listed building and is thus an important cultural monument of the local region.
