Heiligenstadt Primeval Forest Trail

Great view from the Maienwand and beautiful hiking trails!

In the south of the spa, a "primeval forest in the middle of Germany" extends over a total of approx. 5 hectares. Since the middle of the last century, a beech forest with 250 year old beeches has been able to develop undisturbed. A special feature is that yew trees also grow in this forest, which have become rare as a forest tree in Central Europe. Due to their age, the old beeches are equipped with structures that provide a home for animal and plant species that are dependent on the properties of old trees. This includes various forest-dwelling bats and bird species (e.g. Bechstein's bats or middle woodpeckers).

This beautiful jungle hiking path is located right behind the Maienwand viewpoint in the direction of Lutter. The beginning and end of the trail are clearly signposted and the jungle hiking trail runs right next to the actual hiking trail.
Also very interesting for children, with beautiful display boards.
