One of the oldest tide mills in France. Today it is a place for contemporary art exhibitions.

This old mill is very popular. The water flows under the mill at high speed.

Old tidal mill from the beginning of the 12th century: double-sloped roof covered with slate, southwest facade and gables in granite rubble stone and northeast facade in freestone. The whole decoration, quite unusual for a mill, designates it as a construction and a stately property. The pediments of the dormer windows, the series of modillions on the facade and the sculptures of the chimneys (legend has it that the masks are those of Abélard and Héloïse) recall the decorative vocabulary of the Renaissance, close to the style of the dormer windows of the village of Sarzeau. The mill used to work with the tide. Valves concealed by the roadway brought the water retained in the pond to flow onto the wheels located in the basement of the building. In 1380, the Duke of Brittany Jean IV exchanged Pen Castel against the Lices mill that the monks of Saint Gildas owned in Vannes. In 1789 the French Revolution broke out, the monks were then driven out of Pen Castel. In the 18th century after the union of the abbey with the diocese of Vannes, the mill underwent a first renovation. Subsequently sold to a private individual, in the 19th century he built an annex to the mill. We know that the last miller ceased to practice around 1921. The site was classified in 1933 and became a famous restaurant in the 1950s and 1960s. Since 2007, the mill has been owned by the municipality of Arzon. The Moulin de Pen Castel is today managed by the Arzon tourist office, as a cultural and artistic place.
