It might happen you meet the small fellow with his hammer 'in the middle of nowhere'... Along the canal Bruges to Gent, almost in the middle of the trip, a nice bakery shop offers you a variety of pastries, chocolates, etc to 'boost' your energy level. Don't worry: in summertime a table and chairs are available to have a seat. During the winter, only a bank is left.
