We accidentally came across this beautiful medieval village going down the Terminillo, a small town of six hundred inhabitants.
Monteleone di Spoleto is located at an altitude of almost a thousand meters but has a climate made pleasant by a privileged position. A short stop to ask for information on the road we had to take made us discover a well-preserved village in its walls. A pleasant view of narrow streets, stairs and arches that give the place a harmonious architecture.
As Antonio proudly explained to us, a resident of this locality in the Valnerina, the town is famous for its Etruscan chariot found at Colle del Capitano, the only one of its kind, currently housed in the Metropolitan Museum of New York. Too bad we couldn't even see the perfect copy at the local museum.
Noteworthy is the imposing medieval gate of access and the breathtaking views that we admired while pedaling.
We greeted and thanked Antonio for the directions, while we got back on the saddle he shouted at us "... we are among the most beautiful villages in Italy!"

The bar is also the certification point for pilgrims on the Way of St. Benedict. Roberto, the owner, is an expert biker and is very helpful with cyclists. It also has a B&B facility for 6 people (it's good to book). Through him you can also visit the museum of the chariot, a gem that shows the copy (the original is at MOMA in NY) of a ceremonial chariot made by a Greek craftsman for an Etruscan client. The visit is interesting and not to be missed.
