In the district of Cham, a memorial stone in the charming nature around Furth im Wald commemorates the well-known painter and writer Siegfried Peter, who became primarily known under his artist name Friedl Thorward. The versatile artist lived from 1915 to 2008 and, throughout his life as a passionate mountaineer and chronicler, was deeply connected to the culture and rugged beauty of the Bavarian Forest. Today, a popular circular hiking trail in the area around Voithenberghammer passes this monument, which is perfectly embedded in the wooded scenery.
