    The fort was built from 1869-1879. It originally had strategic importance for securing the river mouth. Since it was not needed, parts were blown up after the war and it slowly fell into decay. After extensive restoration, it is now a museum, and the only remaining German naval artilleriefort.

    Cuxhaven is located on the Elbe estuary and the North Sea Watt. The city is with 49,000 inhabitants the largest German Seeheilbad and has beautiful sandy beaches.
    Good starting point for Watt walks to the island of Neuwerk or for cycling.

    The North Sea air is great here - the catering may not always .....

    Waterway. Along the dike, wan can walk very well, ride a bicycle or inliner, always keeping an eye on the incoming and outgoing ships.
