Please check local regulations for: Grunewald
The castle, idyllically situated on Lake Grunewaldsee, is the oldest surviving castle building in Berlin. It was commissioned by Elector Joachim II, built in 1542/43 in the Renaissance style and called "The Green Forest". The name was shortened to Grunewald and because it was convenient, the whole forest was called that. Over the centuries, the castle has been rebuilt or expanded and baroque elements added. The hunting lodge is now a museum. In addition to Berlin's largest Cranach collection, it houses a series of portraits of Brandenburg-Prussian rulers from the 16th to the 19th century and a permanent exhibition on the subject of the Hohenzollerns' passion for hunting. You can find the opening times and further information here: spsg.de/schloesser-gaerten/objekt/jagdschloss-grunewald/?hc_location=ufi.
