In 1849 fighting took place between the Hanau Turnerwehr, Baden Freischärler and federal troops in the city Hirschhorn and in the surrounding areas. On 19./20. June were the second time troops in the city, this time to the 2,400 men, Kurhessen, Bavaria and a detachment of Grand Ducal Hessian Chevauxlegers, while deployed on the Michelberg and on the Ersheimer side, the Baden Freischare. In the afternoon and evening of June 20 rifle and artillery battles developed. Two young volunteers from Eberbach were allegedly shot behind by Bavarian gunmen. This reminds us today of the "Freischärlergrab".
