The Bantiger summit probably once served as a refuge with a ring wall. Later, a high watchtower (a so-called "Chutze") belonging to the alarm network of Old Bern was located here. In 1954, a 60 m high transmission tower was put into operation as the second TV transmission site in Switzerland.
