The Starkholzbacher See near Schwäbisch Hall is a great swimming lake. It has a sunbathing lawn and a bathing jetty. Not far from the lake is the Gipsmühle inn, which originally dates from 1866.
Its more recent history is also interesting. Due to fish die-offs in 2007, the lake was completely drained and re-established as a recreational area a few years ago.
