The former volcano "Großer Tollen" is with its 687 m above sea level. NN one of the highest elevations in the southern Harz.

The Great Tuber is located in the Upper Harz in the Harz Nature Park. It rises 6.3 km east-northeast of Herzberg am Harz, 5 km northeast of Scharzfeld, 5 km northwest of Bad Lauterberg in the Harz and 3.5 km south of the Herzberg district Sieber. It is surrounded by several mountains that reach heights of 550 to 650 meters. In a south-westerly direction is less than 1 km away, the Small tubers (631 m). Between large and small tubers springs the Oder inflow Bremke.
From 1904 built 20 m high tuber tower Knollenturm, which stands next tavern tavern on the summit of the Great Tubers, one looks not only over the mountains of the Harz, but also south to the Rotenberg and Eichsfeld. In this direction you can even see the Great Inselsberg in the Thuringian Forest with good visibility.
