Pinkafeld (Hungarian: Pinkafő, Croatian: Pinkafelj, Romani: Pinkafa) is a town with 5823 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019) in Burgenland in the district of Oberwart (Austria). It is named after the Pinka, a tributary of the Raab.

The first documented mention probably dates back to the year 860.[1] During the following 1000 years, Pinkafeld was part of the Kingdom of Hungary for most of the time. Nevertheless, as in most of the former German-Western Hungary (now Burgenland), the population was predominantly German-speaking since the time of Charlemagne. Historically, Pinkafeld is a town of craftsmen and citizens. The town acquired numerous privileges in the late Middle Ages, such as blood jurisdiction, market and toll rights, and freedom from customs duties. As history progressed, the citizens of Pinkafeld always had a great interest in maintaining these privileges. And indeed, Pinkafeld's privileges were repeatedly confirmed and expanded by many emperors, kings and regional rulers. From the 17th century to the early 20th century, the cloth-making industry shaped the town.

With the founding of the HTBLuVA Pinkafeld on the site of the former stately Meierhof in 1967, Pinkafeld took an important step towards becoming a school and university of applied sciences town. As such, it has since gained national importance and fame, particularly because of the training opportunities in the field of technology. Since 2002, Pinkafeld has been one of the 25 climate protection communities in Burgenland.
