A sturgeon bridge has existed in Heiligenstedten since 1442, before only a wooden walkway crossed the river. In 1777 the bridge was converted into a wooden bascule bridge. The current bridge is a construction completed at the end of 1967, which became necessary after the previous bridge was completely destroyed in a ship collision in 1966. It is operated by the Steinburg district. Very striking in terms of color.
