The state border between North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse runs in the tunnel. It is therefore not the longest tunnel in North Rhine-Westphalia. At 4210 m, the airport tunnel (Cologne) is the longest railway tunnel in NRW, followed by the Egge tunnel at 2880 m.
