The fortress Kufstein towers over the Tyrolean district capital Kufstein as an unmistakable landmark and bears witness to the turbulent past of Kufstein as a border town between Tyrol and Bavaria. The fortress was first mentioned in 1205. Emperor Maximilian I conquered the castle in 1504 and had it expanded. Today, the Kufstein Fortress is a popular venue for theater and concert events, and every year is an impressive backdrop to the operetta summer Kufstein. With the modern panoramic lift, visitors can easily reach the fortress mountain. A special feature is the hero organ in the civic tower: It is the largest free-world in the world. Their play is heard daily in memory of all victims of armed conflict and warns for peace in the world.

The "Pearl of Tyrol". Nice for ice cream in the summer with good opportunities to stop off. Humane prices, many locals.

Do you know the pearl, the pearl of Tyrol "- this is how the charming town on the Inn is sung in the famous Kufstein song. And rightly so, because Kufstein - right on the mighty Kaisergebirge - has much to offer: the charming old town with the historic Römerhofgasse, but also modern boutiques, shopping centers and inviting cafés make Kufstein a versatile, thriving city. Its landmark is the fortress, which towers high above the city and today serves as a backdrop for cultural events.

Parking your bike and exploring on foot is definitely worthwhile in Kufstein. A detour to the fortress, to the town square, to Römerhofgasse or to one of the numerous cafes ... there is a lot to discover!

The approx. 50m long alley that starts from this square and merges into the Inn river promenade, called the old town, is interesting.

Made compact and beautiful. You should have seen it even if it is less suitable for cycling as there is a lot of pedestrian traffic 😉
