Soil development and the stable forest climate allow even more demanding deciduous trees to thrive here, and so despite some setbacks in the early years, a forest has emerged over 120 years that greatly enriches the diverse Cuxhaven coastal landscape. The Wernerwald has been under landscape protection since 1938 and is now owned by the State of Lower Saxony.
