Wharram Quarry is a chalk grassland that is home to many species of butterflies and wildflowers during the spring and summer months. Buzzards also nest in surrounding trees and a flock of Hebridean sheep graze the reserve in winter. There are permissive footpaths around the reserve that you can explore. However, you are advised to stick to footpaths as this former quarry has some dangerous areas that are situated away from the paths.
