The Neo-Gothic Michaels Church, beloved by the people of Turku, dominates the western cityscape, at the gateway to Port Arthur.
Michael's church was inaugurated in 1905. It was designed by the famous architect Lars Sonck, who was only 23 years old when he won a competition for the design of the church in 1894. The exterior of the church is decorated in German neo-Gothic style, whose characteristic slender towers and beautiful ornaments make the church a favorite of many locals. Michael's Church is Turku's most popular wedding church.
The Michael's Church organ was renovated in 2002. The biggest pipe here is also the biggest metal organ pipe in Finland with a height of 9.6 meters.
