Wissembourg is a small town with less than 8000 inhabitants on the German-French border on the edge of Alsace. The city was built around a monastery founded in the seventh century and the remains of the long history still bear witness today. Worth seeing is also the impressive old town with its old fortification.

Wissembourg is beautifully situated on the Lauter and the Lauterkanal, which characterizes the cityscape. By train, the town is easily accessible. There are direct connections from Mainz and Koblenz on weekends and public holidays via Regionalexpress. Wissembourg is connected to the tourist cycle path network of Alsace, making it an ideal starting point for numerous cycling tours.

Wissembourg is the start of the Tour Traversee du Massiv Vosgien. Shortly after the start, there is a small lake with many beaver-like - probably muskrats
