Nearing the top, I was a bit disappointed that under the thick cover of trees we wouldn't be offered up a cracking view in return for our efforts. The descent down the other side of the ridge started as a very narrow, steep, slightly overgrown but not technically challenging singletrack. Ok, but not fabulous. Then all of a sudden, the trail widened and spat us out into a clearing with the most insane view over the hills and to the mountains, golden late light cast over the hillsides.
From there the now doubletrack descent had us whooping for joy, steep and twisty, rutted, stony, fast and enthralling.
