Fort Battice is a Belgian fortification built after 1934 near the town of the same name, about 20 km east of Liège. The fort was part of the outer ring of fortifications around Liège (French: Position Fortifiée de Liège – PFL 1) and covered the eastern front of the city. It secured several road and railway lines. Eight other forts were within range of its artillery (Wikipedia).

Based on the experiences from the First World War - here in particular the battles around Fort Loncin - Battice was protected by appropriately heavily reinforced concrete against fire of a caliber of up to 520 millimeters and the fighting blocks were also placed far away from the underground barracks. Five artillery blocks are distributed over the area of a pentagon: three retractable armored turrets (blocks 4, 6 and A-North) each with two 75-millimeter cannons (range up to 10.1 kilometers) and two armored turrets (block B-north and B -Süd) with two 120-millimeter cannons each (range up to 17.5 kilometers). Except for the north side, the facility is surrounded by a storm-free ditch, which was covered by four strokes. Maintaining the railway line to the north made it necessary to build two flanking systems (Blocks 1 and 2) each with two 60-millimeter anti-tank guns. The main entrance is on the northeast ditch and another entrance with the main fan is about 400 meters away from the entire system. The barracks with rest rooms, kitchen and infirmary are located at a depth of about 30 meters. A power station generated the electrical energy for lighting, ventilation, elevators and so on with six 175 HP motors. A 3.8 kilometer long underground corridor system connects all important parts of the fort with one another. Six artillery observation posts were set up in the wide area around Battice.

Fort Battice is a large artillery structure built from 1934 to 1937 located in the Belgian town of Herve and belonging to the fortified position of Liège.
Located 17 kilometers from the German border, Fort Battice was one of the first positions attacked by the German army on May 10, 1940. Its garrison consisted of 750 men and, during the fighting, 34 of them lost their lives.
