In 1894, the last reigning Prince Friedrich zu Waldeck and Pyrmont (1865 - 1946) had a hunting lodge built here, which he named after Princess Bathildis (1873 - 1962). Their social commitment is still remembered by many Waldeckers today. After World War I the hunting lodge was demolished. The Bathildishütte was created from the former stables and served as a hunting lodge until it was declared a national park. There is a huge Douglas fir near the hut. Mountain biking

A really nice place that often promises a lot of rest. The hut is a bit off the path and it's easy to miss if you don't pay close attention. I like to take a break there because you can enjoy the peace and quiet. Highly recommend this place. You can also take a path from the hut that leads directly down into the Banfetal, but this is closed to bikers. Bikers then have to take the path via the charcoal pile and the sour milk place if they want to go down directly to the lake.
