With canalside ambles, explorations of vibrant nature reserves and beautiful country parks, there are plenty of great walks around Wolverhampton. One of the great powerhouses of the Midlands, Wolverhampton is a vibrant, modern city with a proud manufacturing and mining heritage. Veined by canals, the city’s towpaths are a great way to link some of its larger greenspaces.
Within touching distance of the city centre is the Victorian splendour of West Park, while in the other direction you find the scenic East Park. Many of the finest hikes around Wolverhampton can be found further out of the centre. Smestow Valley is home to colourful meadows, former railway walks, and canalside strolls; Pendeford Mill Nature Reserve boasts a 2,000-year-old yew tree amongst its atmospheric woodland; while to the west of the city, Wrottesley Park lies on both the Staffordshire Way and the Monarch’s Way long-distance footpaths and is a haven for wildlife.
With so many objectives for scenic walks around Wolverhampton, you’re spoilt for choice. After a day on the trails, there’s usually a cafe serving up a hot brew and a slice of cake for that all-important refuel.
