Hiking around Solihull enables you to discover one of Britain’s most affluent regions, a picturesque borough, of which three quarters is designated green belt. In the southeast of the West Midlands and only a short hop from the bustling metropolis of Birmingham, walks around Solihull give you a quick and invigorating escape from city life.
With over 150 miles (241 km) of public rights of way in the borough, it’s easy to find an amble to suit your mood. From the town centre, the River Blythe and its vibrant nature reserves are within walking distance. The Grand Union Canal also passes through the region, giving you flat walks full of history and lovely scenery.
To the east, between Solihull and Coventry is the Meriden Gap, an area of rural pastures, punctuated by attractive villages. Think village greens, pretty churches, gently undulating countryside and excellent pub walks aplenty. In the west of the borough, the trails around the village of Earlswood discover its three lakes and adjacent broad-leaved woodland, giving short ambles with plenty of variety.
