From lush valleys with waterfalls and medieval packhorse bridges to expansive, exposed moorland, cycling in Dartmoor is an experience packed with outstanding sights. If you’re looking for flat riding, you won’t find it here but you will find an abundance of quiet lanes, so you can take the many hills in peace and with plenty of stops to admire the views. This magnificent national park sees ponies, sheep and cows roaming free too, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself sharing the road with furrier users.
If you’re looking for vast panoramas, then the cycle routes across Dartmoor’s wild moorland are where you’ll find them. As the moor is high, once you’re up there you can roll from granite tor to granite tor without too many harsh climbs. For mossy stone walls, luscious ferns and rushing rivers, explore the Teign, Bovey and Dart valleys – all have challenging ascents and descents. With tiny thatched villages tucked into the folds of the hills, there are plenty of places to stop for a rest.
