"Together we are strong" has long been the motto of the municipality of Schenefeld, and under this heading the mayor at the time, Hans-Heinrich Barnick, put the participation in the state competition "Our village has a future" in 2009. With success, as the result after the two-and-a-half-hour visit by the jury headed by Helga Klindt on September 16 showed: Schenefeld became the state winner and was now able to look forward to a new crowing bronze rooster. Together with Minister Dr. Juliane Rumpf from the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas, with the chairwoman of the Schleswig-Holstein Heimatverein, Jutta Kürz, and Helga Klindt, then Mayor Barnick unveiled the new landmark for a future-oriented community on the Schenefeld market square to the applause of the spectators. It is already the second award at state level, because the municipality received the first crowing rooster in 1982, at that time still for the "Beautiful Village" competition, which has had a permanent place in the park ever since. At the subsequent festive award ceremony in the forum of the Schenefeld elementary and community school, a film shot by the video company of the open all-day school gave the party a small impression of community life in Schenefeld with its 2500 inhabitants, of the infrastructure, club life, festivals and events and from institutions such as kindergartens, schools, nursing homes and savings banks. Hans-Heinrich Barnick gave a brief historical outline of his community. The head of the municipality had previously welcomed the numerous guests of honor, including the mayors of the three competing municipalities, who were also honored by the minister on the day. She particularly emphasized that since 1961, Schenefeld has been the only community in Schleswig-Holstein to be "on top of the podium" for the second time. With all good wishes for the future, she presented Hans-Heinrich Barnick with the certificate of victory. The certificate of honor Mayor Jörg Smolla accepted second place for his community Koberg (Duchy of Lauenburg district). The communities of Schmilau (also Duchy of Lauenburg) and Wakendorf 1 (District of Segeberg) shared third place with almost the same number of points. The mayors Eckhard Rollinger and Kurt Böttger received the certificates of honor for their villages. The minister acknowledged the commitment of the population in all participating villages, which at the same time represents a motivation for future-oriented politics in rural areas. The district of Steinburg is proud that a third rooster is now allowed to crow in the district, said the district president at the time, Hans-Friedrich Tiemann. He emphasized that despite the demographic development, the quality of life in the villages had to be guaranteed "so that the young people can stay there". today he was impressed by the presentation on the day of the jury's visit. He presented Barnick with a monetary gift from the mayor. It will benefit the Schenefeld kindergarten. Hans-Friedrich Tiemann and Hermann Nottelmann had given their speeches in Low German, which made Jutta Kürz particularly happy. "Our traditional language belongs in our villages, it conveys a feeling of home and thus also of quality of life." She described the "proud rooster" as a symbol of strength and vigilance and also of fertility. Commission leader Helga Klindt described the two and a half hour visit to Schenefeld as a snapshot. Despite the short time, Schenefeld presented itself as innovative and goal-oriented. She confirmed that the municipality had a great chance in the national competition next year.

The building is said to have been constructed during the Carolingian rule and to be the first Christian settlement in Holstein. According to the Society for Schleswig-Holstein History, however, it is disputed whether remains of walls from the Carolingian period can actually be found on the church. Today's building was built after the Thirty Years' War. In 1932 an archaeological investigation was carried out by Alfred Kamphausen and in 1980 an excavation was carried out by the Archaeological State Office of Schleswig-Holstein under the leadership of Dr. Willie Kramer. This research team came to the conclusion that the Schenefeld Bonifatiuskirche cannot be regarded with certainty as one of the early medieval baptisteries in northern Albingia. During the excavations it was found that after a fire in 1628 the round tower was demolished and a square tower was built in its place. However, the foundation did not hold up, so the tower was demolished again in 1732 and replaced by a lighter one with a turret. Memorial stones and grave crosses in the older part of the cemetery, which is no longer in use, directly by the church, bear witness to very old graves. Günter Kunert (born March 6, 1929 in Berlin; died September 21, 2019 in Kaisborstel was a German poet and writer. His work mainly deals with the two German states at the time of division, i.e. the complexity of their interrelationships and their different sensitivities, and then the reunified Germany. After attending elementary school, Günter Kunert was not able to attend higher school due to the National Socialist racial laws (his mother was Jewish). From 1946 he studied graphics in East Berlin as one of the first students at the Weissensee Art Academy for five semesters, then he gave up his studies. In 1948 he joined the SED. He met Bertolt Brecht and Johannes R. Becher. From the mid-1960s he maintained a close friendship with his colleague Nicolas Born, and an intensive exchange of letters, which in 1978 briefly became an exchange of letters intended for publication. 1972/73 he was a guest lecturer at the University of Texas in Austin, 1975 at the University of Warwick in England. In 1976 he was one of the first to sign the petition against Wolf Biermann's expatriation. As a result, his SED membership was revoked in 1977. In 1979, a multi-year visa enabled him to leave the GDR. Kunert settled with his wife Marianne in Kaisborstel near Itzehoe, where he lived as a freelance writer until the end. Kunert is considered one of the most versatile and important contemporary writers. In addition to poetry, there are short stories (parables) and stories, essays, autobiographical notes, aphorisms, commentaries and satires, fairy tales and science fiction, radio plays, speeches, travel sketches, screenplays, a large number of forewords and afterwords to publications by other authors, Libretti, children's books, a novel, a drama and other things that make up Kunert's literary work, which can hardly be overseen. Kunert also emerged as a painter and draftsman. In his work he took a critical stance on topics such as belief in progress, National Socialism and the politics of the GDR regime. While his early poems, pedagogically critical arguments, were committed to socialist realism and were intended to serve progress, he later adopted an increasingly skeptical and pessimistic attitude. Günter Kunert has been a member of the German Academy for Language and Poetry since 1981, a member of the Free Academy of Arts in Hamburg since 1988, 2005-2018 President of the Board of the P.E.N. V In February 2019, Wallstein Verlag published a previously unknown novel entitled The Second Woman, written more than 40 years earlier, the manuscript of which Kunert "recently discovered by accident in a chest". Günter Kunert died at home in September 2019 at the age of 90 as a result of pneumonia - two days before the publication of his last volume of poetry. His final resting place is in the Jewish Cemetery in Berlin-Weissensee. Source: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%BCnter_Kunert
