Tips from the Community

Actually a varied hike with great views. Demanding because of the steep ascent to White Horse. Definitely avoid the last turn to the right (you have to climb over a barrier) and instead continue straight ahead. Not only does a guard dog follow you barking loudly along the entire "path". The path is mostly completely overgrown with thistles and giant nettles and you have to climb over two fences.

Byland Abbey is a ruined 12th-century monastery located in the North York Moors National Park in North Yorkshire, England, managed today by English Heritage. Once a powerhouse of the Cistercian order, it stands as one of the finest examples of early Gothic architecture in the country and famously inspired the design of the iconic Rose Window at York Minster.

Stayed at one of the local pubs, was good but their internet connection was non-existent, had to pay for a 24hr hotspot with EE

One of only a few such mazes left in the country and the only one in Yorkshire.

Had a coffee and one of the best sausage rolls I have had in a long time. Which I had on the picnic benches in the garden across the street. Delightful!
