Whether you prefer a cool blonde at Wannsee or a dark and spicy craft beer in Kreuzberg, beer and hiking are always a good combination! In and around Berlin, you don't have to carry heavy glass bottles in your backpack to enjoy a cold beer on the way. During summer, you are never far from a cosy beer garden to try out some tasty hoppy beverages.
We have put together ten beautiful walks for you, three of which are located in the city centre. These hikes around Kreuzberg and Zoo are especially charming at night when the city’s lights are twinkling as you hop from beer garden to beer garden.
The other routes take you into the beautiful nature in and around Berlin. In the Barnim, a rural district to the north-west of Berlin, you can enjoy a cool beer surrounded by lakes. In Hennigsdorf, you can sit on the banks of the River Havel, kick off your shoes and watch boats drift by. On a walk through the lush Grunewald Forest, you can stop off at three beer gardens. At Diedersdorf Castle, you visit the biggest beer garden in Berlin-Brandenburg. Finally, you can discover colourful history on a hike through Düppeler Forest and chill in a deck chair at the calm Teltow channel.
The best thing about these routes is that all of them can be easily reached with the Berlin S-Bahn so you don’t have to worry about having an extra beer.
When the mild summer nights fall over the capital, there is nothing nicer than strolling along shady, tree-lined paths along the water and waving to the boats and ships passing by.
