Finest Trails, crisp climbs and flowy downhills on some of the most beautiful hiking trails in the region. The Walser Ultra is the perfect two-day challenge for experienced trail runners who want to experience or even almost circumnavigate the Kleinwalsertal in all its alpine splendour.
From the rugged karst landscape of the Gottesacker plateau via the 2,230-metre-high Ifen and the summit of the Grünhorn to the flowy trails of the Krumbacher Höhenweg, you will be offered everything that makes alpine trail running.
The trails often require concentration and sure-footedness and sometimes a head for heights.
The route follows the almost 63-kilometre-long course of the Walser Ultra Trail, which takes place every year in July as part of the Walser trailchallenge.at. You can divide the route over two days - ideal for a dream running weekend or a detailed route check. By the way: The second day is also the route of the shorter competition distance of the Walser Trail at around 28 kilometres.
Thanks to the free bus service in the Kleinwalsertal for overnight guests, the tour is particularly practical: On the first day, you take the bus to the start and then simply run back to your accommodation in Baad. On the second day, you can start directly from the door of your accommodation onto the trails. This way you have maximum comfort and can leave your luggage behind in a relaxed manner.
Remember to be well equipped for all eventualities: a first-aid kit, Rain Jacket and a good packing list are a must. Above 2,000 metres, the weather can change quickly. It is best to plan the tour in summer, as some sections are closed as protected areas between 1 December and 30 April. Check beforehand on kleinwalsertal.com to see which paths are open.
