Between Munich and the edge of the Alps stretches a magical landscape that’s best explored on two wheels. Sparkling lakes, rushing rivers, picturesque moors and panoramic mountain ranges await. From the high places, let your gaze wander along the grand spine of the Alps. It’s no wonder that this idyll, with its unique natural beauty, inspired the expressionist artists of the ‘Blauer Reiter’ and the ‘Brücke’ groups to create their masterpieces.

In this Collection, we invite you to experience this wonderful connection between art and nature. On the routes of the MuSeenLandschaft Expressionismus, you’ll cycle from museum to museum and follow in the footsteps of Wassily Kandinsky, Gabriele Münter, Franz Marc, Alexej von Jawlensky and Heinrich Campendonk, as well as Emil Nolde and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner.

The five stages of the MuSeenLandschaft Expressionismus loop take you from the Lenbachhaus in Munich to the Buchheim Museum at the Starnberger See, the Schlossmuseum in Murnau, the Franz Marc Museum in Kochel am See and the Museum Penzberg’s Campendonk Collection. If you’d prefer to explore the museums on day rides, the four day loops detailed here are the way to go. They not only link the museums, but also offer wonderful insights into the landscapes that have inspired the artists.

All rides, both the individual stages of the multi-day route and the day loops, are accessible by train. This allows you to be flexible and combine the rides as you prefer. We wish you an enlightening time as you revel in the art and the region’s beauty.
