This Collection guides you on a journey from the state capital Stuttgart, along the Neckar river, across the Swabian Alb, through the Kleines Lautertal and along the Blau river to Ulm, where you can admire the highest church tower in the world. The 100-kilometre (62 mi) route has over 1,100 metres (3,600 ft) of elevation gain. For a challenge, tackle the route in a day. Otherwise, I recommend splitting the Tour.
In this Collection, I present the route in three stages, each 31 to 36 kilometres (19 to 22 mi) long. In Kirchheim unter Teck and Laichingen, the stage destinations, you’ll find accommodation and places to stop for refreshments. In Kirchheim, you’ll also have access to the regional and S-Bahn. Your adventure begins at the main train station in Stuttgart.
In the Neckar Valley, just outside Stuttgart, steep vineyards and wooded hills line your path. You’ll then head towards the Swabian Alb, where you’ll enjoy a clear view of the Teckberg before a steep climb to the Alb plateau. Once at the top, you can enjoy spectacular views from Albtrauf. You’ll then cycle on through the green meadows and quiet forests of the low mountain range and pass through the wild Kleine Lautertal valley to reach the Blau. As you follow the river, the scenery becomes more urban, until you finally stand in the middle of Ulm.
