Where the Rott and Inn rivers meet on the edge of Lower Bavaria lies a fertile landscape. The 126-kilometre (78.5 mi) Saurüssel Cycle Path (Saurüssel Radweg) explores this region on the Austrian-German border. Ten municipalities in the district of Passau joined forces to create this family-friendly cycle route.

On this route, you can discover countless cultural and natural highlights on two wheels. While the route is on German soil, stepping across the border into Austria provides a fascinating insight into the shared history and traditions of these countries.

Along the way, you'll visit stately castles, monasteries and churches. You’ll have the opportunity to gaze over rolling hills and take a break in baroque town squares. Green riverbanks and small bathing lakes invite you to sit and relax.

In this Collection, I’ve divided the Saurüssel Cycle Path into two stages. The start and finish point is the town of Pocking and there’s an overnight stay in Ruhstorf in between. As this is a loop, you can also choose your own starting point.

There are connections to the railway network in Pocking, Karpfham, Ruhstorf and Neukirchen am Inn, as well as in nearby Schärding (Austria). You can also easily split the route into several stages and choose a place other than Ruhstorf to spend the night.

You’ll mainly be travelling on asphalt with some gravel sections and the route is suitable for families with children. As is commonplace in Bavaria, there are plenty of inns along the way to recharge your batteries.

On the Saurüssel Cycle Path, you can experience and enjoy the local delicacies and the colourful cultural landscape in this beautiful part of Lower Bavaria.

Your destination, Pocking, is actually only a few kilometers away from Ruhstorf, but the wonderful, hilly loop of the second stage takes you to fascinating highlights such as castles, monasteries and bridges on both sides of the Inn. Starting from Ruhstorf you drive in the Rott valley to Neuhaus am Inn
