The landscape around Switzerland’s Lake Zurich is wonderfully contrasting. This not only makes it one of the most sought-after residential areas in the world, but also a spectacular hiking region with plenty to discover.

In this Collection, I reveal the Lake Zurich loop (Zürichsee-Rundweg). Over ten stages, you’ll explore a varied region peppered with historic towns, villages, castles, picturesque lakeside landscapes, vast forests and wild nature reserves. In between, you’ll always have the opportunity to refresh yourself in the lake and sunbathe at idyllic spots.

This long-distance trail caters to hiking connoisseurs, culture buffs and nature fans alike. There’s plenty for gourmets too, as the trail leads past numerous inns and restaurants. If you’re into history, there’s plenty to keep you entertained as the trail passes relics of the Romans, Alemanni and Habsburgs along its 135 kilometres (84 mi).

If you’d rather complete individual day trips, I’ve designed the itinerary so that each start and end point is at a railway station or bus stop. If you want to tackle the entire long-distance hike, be sure to book accommodation in good time.

Enjoy your hike.
