Many mountaineers dream of standing on the highest peaks of the seven continents – commonly known as the Seven Summits. Since the middle of the 20th century, adventurers from all over the world have been pursuing this huge challenge on the flanks of Everest, Denali, Aconcagua et al. However, ticking off these great peaks remains the preserve of only a handful of people.

Such exploits on the highest peaks of this world remain an unattainable dream for most of us. Fortunately, there are also challenges that are a little less difficult and a good deal more practical to overcome. In this Collection, we present a very special one: the SevenSummits in the beautiful Nuremberg region. The best thing is that you don't have to plan any elaborate expeditions to the remotest corners of the Earth. ‘Kleine Abenteuer, die gut erreichbar sind’ (small, easily accessible adventures) – this is the motto of our SevenSummits.

The east of the Nuremberg region offers a hilly low mountain range that has many worthy objectives and spectacular views. Perhaps the best way to explore the range is on these varied hikes to the SevenSummits, which take you along small trails to the region’s Highlights. It’s not all about beautiful landscapes – castle ruins, cosy Franconian villages and opportunities to stop for a bite to eat await you too.

Nuremberg’s seven summits are all over 600 metres (1,970 ft) high and offer very different experiences. From the easy hike up the Windburg to the demanding challenge of the Dom, there’s something for everyone. However, all the routes have one thing in common: breathtaking views of the Franconian hills. As well as the summits, there are always additional Highlights in store for you too: be it the Arzberg Tower, the historic ‘Acropolis of the Celts’ on Hochberg or the beautifully preserved Hohenstein Castle.

All Tours are easily accessible by public transport, as the Nuremberg region has an excellent network despite its quiet and rural character, so you can leave your car at home. You can find more information at vgn.de/en.

The Tours sometimes include narrow and steep paths, so we recommend decent hiking footwear and some hillwalking experience. Depending on the weather, you can tackle the SevenSummits all year round. So load your backpack and off you go to Nuremberg!
