In the north-west of Germany, where silence and space meet unspoilt nature, lies the Emsland. The Ems River, after which the area is named, flows here, as well as the Hase River. There are also numerous swimming lakes. The countryside is flat and ideal for relaxed cycling. Why not explore these waters by bike?

In this Collection, we present 11 themed cycling Tours which take you to water, a defining feature of Emsland. You explore the Ems and ride along the banks of its tributaries, such as the Hase and the Nordradde.

Some of the Tours follow well-maintained long-distance cycle paths such as the Ems Cycle Path, the Dortmund-Ems Canal Cycle Route, or the Hase-Ems Tour. The routes are mainly asphalted – perfect for a smooth ride.

You can easily reach the routes with your bike by catching the Emsland RADExpress train. There are also many great restaurants and cafés waiting for you along the routes. We wish you a great journey along the water!

Dunes without a sea? Yes, that is possible in Emsland. Ice Age glaciers brought the sand into the region, which was then blown up to form dunes. Sandy sections of track and vegetation that grows on this nutrient-poor soil are therefore nothing unusual on this approximately 75-kilometer circuit.
