The German Unity Cycle Route leads you over 1,100 kilometres (680 mi) through seven federal states – from the former federal capital Bonn through North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse, Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg to Berlin. This great cycle path is thus a symbol of reunification and the coming together of a nation’s infrastructure.
Not only will you be enthralled by the magnificent landscapes, with their low mountain ranges and plains, rivers and lakes or forests and fields, you’ll also experience the unique success story of the reunification at around 90 historical sites. At the same time, you can look to the future with the region’s latest innovations.
The German Unification Cycle Route is part of the German Cycle Network and an integral part of the Federal Government's National Cycling Plan. The 12 long-distance cycle routes and the German Unity Cycle Route connect all regions of Germany with north-south and west-east links. For this purpose, existing long-distance cycle routes, river routes or themed routes are interconnected, linked at attractive and exciting locations and integrated into the existing Eurovelo network. A Collection of the entire German Cycling Network Germany, with all 12 D-Routes and the German Unity Cycle Route, can be found here: komoot.com/collection/1928660.
