The Fichtel Mountains in Germany have been inspiring hikers for centuries. The small horseshoe-shaped mountain range along the border of the Czech Republic offers over 2,230 miles (3,600 km) of hiking terrain. With boundless history, themed trails, and spectacular nature, it comes as no surprise that the region is a favourite among hikers.
In this Collection, we’ve put together some of the most beautiful routes in the region that can be completed in a day. The hikes follow themed trails that teach you something new about the region. You will ramble through romantic valleys, to unique rock formations and magnificent vantage points.
The region is also steeped in history. Abandoned ruins and castles line the way and you will pass many relics from the mining industry. When you are ready for a break, there are plenty of traditional restaurants en route.
The villages of Arzberg, Nagel, Rehau, Bad Berneck, Weißenstadt, Selb, Mehlmeisel, Weidenberg, and Bad Alexandersbad are ideal basecamps from which to explore the Fichtel Mountains.
