Do you love trail running? Are you ready for adventure? The team at Trail Pursuit have created an epic trail running festival right in the emerald heart of the beautiful Brecon Beacons. Check out trailpursuit.com for detailed information about the festival, our other events and more.
We’re excited to launch six incredible trail races: the 50 Mile Ultra, Trail Marathon, Trail Half Marathon, Trail 10K, Trail 5K and the Kids’ 1 Mile Race. All of the races leave the idyllic Gilestone Farm to explore the majestic countryside of the Central Brecon Beacons. It’s a sublime landscape of verdant, sweeping uplands sculpted by aeons of glaciation that rise above wood-cloaked valleys adorned by sparkling reservoirs and tumbling waterfalls.
The Kids’ Race explores the grounds of Gilestone Farm, while the 5K, 10K and Half Marathon routes venture along superb forest tracks and ancient tram roads above the Caerfanell Valley. The Trail Marathon and 50 Mile Ultra up the ante, taking you onto the ridges of the mighty Pen Y Fan and her family of spectacular peaks. This is the highest ground in southern Britain and, unsurprisingly, the scenes from up here are nothing short of sensational.
However, to us, even more important than the trails and the races are you lot: the many wonderful people who have come here to explore, discover, make new friends and have an awesome time. We’re passionate about building a community of like-minded folk, from complete newbies to the seasoned mountain goats among you.
At the festival, you can immerse yourself in the adventure, support one another, feel the good vibes and just enjoy the experience. There are a variety of events and things to do: from yoga, organised walks and run workshops; to talks on nutrition, navigation, route planning and training, as well as incredible tales from some of trail runnings’ most inspiring characters.
This Collection is a part of the legacy we want to build. It allows you to not only study our carefully crafted running routes, but to get out onto them before or after the festival has packed up for the year. These are epic adventures that we’re stoked to be sharing with the wider trail running community. We encourage you to download these routes and make them your own.
For the longer runs, you’ll need your trail backpack, plenty of water, high energy snacks, a fully charged mobile phone, a waterproof jacket, waterproof trousers, gloves, a hat/buff, a whistle, and an emergency bivvy bag in case of an accident. Those running the Trail Marathon and 50 Mile Ultra will also need to pack a headtorch.
If you plan to run these routes independently, remember that any activity in the UK’s hills and mountains can be hazardous and the weather can change very quickly on any given day. While we at Trail Pursuit highly recommend these routes, they should be used as a guide only. It is up to you to consider the risks, exercise your own judgement and accept responsibility for planning your run and when on the trails. Trail Pursuit cannot be held liable for any accidents that may occur.
Our races start from Gilestone Farm near the lovely village of Talybont-on-Usk, which occupies a gorgeous position between the historic Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal and the River Usk. This charming farm boasts excellent accommodation, from glamping options to a farmhouse and lodges. Talybont is a thriving place, with the best of everything the Brecon Beacons has to offer right on your doorstep. There’s a trio of excellent pubs, a restaurant, a village shop and a great café.
Talybont is best accessed by road from the A40 between Abergavenny and Brecon. The easiest approach by public transport is to take a bus from Abergavenny, which has good rail links to Manchester and Crewe in the north and Newport in the south, with connections to Cardiff, Bristol, London and beyond.
The Trail 5K starts from the charming Gilestone Farm, which sits on the River Usk and looks out onto the majestic Central Beacons. It’s a fast-paced route on mostly flat ground which takes you through the village of Talybont before ascending gradually above the Afon Caerfanell. After this, it loops back…
This is an epic and challenging 10K, featuring a thigh burning 885 feet (270 m) of elevation gain — and most of it is in one go too! Natural splendour and human history combine as you take on forest tracks, ancient tramways and hillside trails.
The Trail 10K starts from Gilestone Farm and heads through…

This is a half marathon with a difference. The brooding beauty of Talybont Reservoir, the silence of the forest trails, the punishing climb and the thrill of a long, undulating descent back to base. With around 1,840 feet (560 m) of ascent on the cards, it’s not for the faint-hearted. To put it into…
For the Trail Marathon, we hit the mountains. This includes the highest land in southern Britain: the iconic Pen y Fan. A grand traverse of the Central Beacons’ lofty spine takes you across other peaks such as Cribyn and Fan y Big. However, this is only half the story, with an exciting descent through…
The 50 Mile Ultra takes matters to a whole other level, tackling the main peaks of the Central Beacons before engaging in an epic double loop of the Caerfanell Valley above Talybont Reservoir. This is an extremely challenging ultra, which features 6,850 feet (2,090 m) of ascent, which is roughly equivalent…
The Kids' 1 Mile Race is a well-marked couple of laps of the idyllic Gilestone Farm’s fields. With the rolling green of the Brecon Beacons as their backdrop, this is the perfect course to inspire the little ones and give them their first taste of wild running.
