From the Main in Lower Franconia, the Main-Werra cycle path winds its way to southern Thuringia to the Werra. Along the way, you cycle past wide meadows and fields, dive into charming valleys and follow the playful loops of smaller rivers. As a crowning finale, you ride over the foothills of the Rhön, where you are surrounded by a picture-book idyll of wonderfully beautiful landscape - unforgettable views are guaranteed here.
The Main-Werra cycle path runs for around 140 kilometres from Würzburg to Meiningen. The route takes you via Schweinfurt, Bad Neustadt and Mellrichstadt. On the three stages, you discover the Werntal, the Streutal and the romantic Münnerstädter Tal. You cycle along the Main, the Saale with its lush floodplains and follow the Werra on the well-developed Werra Valley cycle path.
The three stages are between 41 and 54 kilometres long and are suitable for all bicycles, as you ride almost exclusively on asphalted and well-developed routes. The starting point in Würzburg, the destination in Meiningen and all stage locations have a railway station. This means you can travel comfortably by train. Würzburg can be reached by regional and long-distance trains, Meiningen is connected to the regional network with direct connections towards Erfurt and Schweinfurt.
At the end of each stage, you have a wide choice of accommodation options in hotels, guesthouses or holiday apartments. And your physical well-being is also catered for along the way: in the towns along the route, you will repeatedly find cosy restaurants where you can treat yourself to Franconian delicacies or Thuringian specialities.
