At the southern foothills of the Hunsrück, in the north of Saarland, a tiny stream trickles out of a rock. This is the birth of the Nahe, which flows through narrow gorges, past impressive rocks, picturesque villages and idyllic vineyards during its 125 kilometers, before it flows into the Rhine in Bingen. The landscapes are constantly changing and behind every river bend new, surprising highlights are waiting to be discovered by you.
In this collection, I would like to introduce you to the Nahe cycle path and have prepared the individual stages for you. The almost 130 kilometer long tour is best divided into three stages or, if you are a bit more sporty, you can master it in two days. But then you might miss some of the many treasures along the way, including the Mediterranean Bostalsee, the gemstone mine in Idar-Oberstein, the Kyrburg, breathtaking panoramas or the open-air inhalatorium in the Salinental. Also, the altitude, especially on the first 50 kilometers, should not be underestimated.
You cannot reach the source near Selbach directly by train, but the train stations Sankt Wendel and Türkismühle are not far away. From there to the mouth you always have the possibility to get on the train. Anyway, the infrastructure along the tour is very well developed. You mostly drive on good cycle paths and you will find enough accommodation options along the route. And if your strength runs out, the hearty Rhineland-Palatinate cuisine with Spießbraten and Krumbierewurscht will strengthen you. At the end of each stage, you can then review the impressions of the day over a delicious glass of wine.

The Nahe rises in the southern foothills of the Hunsrück in Saarland in the tranquil village of Selbach. If you want to start the tour right at the source, you can take the train to Türkismühle and drive back a little way. Or you can get off the train in Sankt Wendel and drive to Oberthal on a railway…

The second stage of the Nahe cycle path is much more relaxed, both in terms of altitude and length. So you can give yourself enough time to discover the treasures to the left and right of the route. For example the impressive rock church that proudly watches over the half-timbered houses of Idar-Oberstein…

The third and last stage of the Nahe cycle path is full of highlights. The exciting barefoot path is already waiting for you when you exit Bad Sobernheim. In Oberhausen there is the first and only significant climb of the entire stage. But the view from the domain over the vineyards is unique.
