In case you missed it, long-time komoot ambassador Lael Wilcox cycled the circumference of the earth in an attempt to beat the world record. Aiming for 110 days, she pulled it off in only 108 days, rising to the personal challenge and inspiring many of us with her determination and positive attitude along the way. This is her record recap – a small nod to her HUGE achievement.
Has it hit you yet that you literally cycled around the world?
Yes! But also I feel like there are a million more places to go and trips to do so it seems endless.
One is "meh", ten is amazing: Rate your route.
10
Most thoughtful act of kindness you experienced on the road
So many - people coming out to cheer me on in the dark, whole families waving me on. Everyone was just so kind.
Worst food
Deep-fried sausages in an Australian gas station
Biggest fail
Day 4 I was throwing up all day, bad Poison Ivy incident in Germany, bad stomach in Australia (from jerky)
Best food en route?
A delicious little steak in the Basque country
Most surprising thing about this ride
Thousands of people came out to ride with me
Would you do it again?
Not in exactly the same way, but I didn’t get sick of riding, I'm still on my bike, and still just happy to be out there.
Most challenging thing about the ride
Winter in Australia and New Zealand. It was dark and cold (but people were really sweet).
Favorite wildlife sighting
Wombats in Australia
One thing you’d do differently if you got a retake
Everything went really well. I wouldn’t change a thing.
Most bike-friendly country
The Netherlands. The bike routes there were really incredible.
