About Atlas Mountain Trails
The first long distance Mountain Biking Trail Network of the Atlas Mountains.

Atlas Mountain Trails (AMT) is a community based tourism project valorizing the cultural heritage of the Amazigh mountain people of Morocco. AMT provides you with the information and contacts to organize your self supported MTB Trans-Atlas adventure and explore the Amazigh culture and their land.

AMT includes currently over 1.000 kilometers and 30,000 vertical meters of mountain trails in the Moroccan High and Middle Atlas mountain ranges. Organized in five crossings, traverses or round trips, the covered regions provide a great diversity from the Atlantic Coast to the Middle Atlas in the East passing through the breathtaking mountain passes of the Toushka Plateau or the Mgoun Geopark.

Our aim is to share our experiences in the most comprehensible and user-friendly way, allowing other riders to plan your unique self organized MTB adventure.

AMT is built on a community of local guides and tourism professionals who keep the information updated and further develop the network of trails. Through this site you will be able to get in touch with that community, organize your accommodation (often local homestays) and get valuable support.

The last day of the tour leads you over the plateau Yagour, famous for its ancient stone carvings and high altitude pastures in the shade of the holy mountain Jbel Meltsene. In terms of statistics the tour looks like a rather relaxed end of the crossing, but a very steep 1.000 height meter ramp to the plateau, followed by over 20km of technical single trail on high altitude are not to be underestimated. The different views you will catch into the rugged valley of Oued Tensift are one of the scenic highlights of the tour. Another highlight is undoubtedly the last downhill trail to the village of Assads that is better than any designed trail in a MTB Park in the Alps. Rest day, with just 14 km on the provincial road P1506. Enough to warm up the muscles and enjoy the colourful but arid landscape leading back to the Central Atlas high plains. We are back on one of the touristic attractions of the High Atlas as the road connects the Tizi-n-Tischka Pass with the famous Unesco World Heritage Site Ait Ben Haddou. Just before the pass Tizi Tanbdout (1.960m) a small path on the right hand side of the road leads into a narrow canyon to the salt mines of Telouet. Be prepared for a long day with radical changes in landscapes and temperatures. From Ifoulou we follow the Tassaout river downhill until we reach the N23 in Aît Alla, where we turn left. This road connects Ouarzarzate and Demnate, crossing the Atlas mountain chain. The first 15 km uphill are a great warmup until reaching the Tizi’n Fadghat pass at 2.232 m. To your left the massif Jbel Toudja (2.770 m). From there enjoy the windy road down through a landscape of stones in all shades of ochre.
