Winter Kungsleden Ski Tour Day 1 - Abisko to Abiskojaure
A shorter first day to get our ski legs on the Kungsleden. Pulling our 25 kg pulkas, we had to adjust to slower skiing and the challenge of following the trail over melted out bridges. Nature celebrated our first night in the huts with an amazing display of the aurora borealis. Stunning!

Zigzag Mountain Trail
Found some vert in the lush green forests of Mt Hood! This trail is one to revisit in the spring when the rhododendrons are blooming. The endpoint of this hike is the old location of the West Zigzag lookout, which offers sweeping views of the valley below. My GPS was going a little crazy - the actual distance of this hike is about 11 miles.

Santiam Wagon Road
Looking for mushrooms and history along the historic Santiam Wagon Road. Found shaggy mane, king bolete, lobsters and a bunch of lovely but inedible 'shrooms too.

Over 38 miles of old road are open for hiking and mountain biking. Old growth trees, gigantic rocks, a lively river, and the echoes of history make this a route worth exploring. I definitely want to go back with my bike and ride this mellow trail!
