Rain had been forecast, but as it turned out, there were only a few drops, around Flamborough-Bridlington. Lots of lightning visible among the clouds to the east while I was heading south up the side of the Trent, but too far away to hear any thunder. Wildlife included sightings of herons, owls, rabbits and a deer - heard foxes in the night but didn’t see any. There were seals on the rocks off Flamborough Head, but I didn't stay around there for long as time was pressing on.

First time up the Pea Royd Lane climb out of Stocksbridge. Missed the turning for Carlecotes but spotted it before I'd gone too far. Got through the A628 bit before the overnight closure for resurfacing from 20:00.

Early rain held off, warm throughout and occasionally sunny. Puncture on the way up out of Dean so stopped off in Pennywell Farm car park to sort it out. Had thought to go round Ilsham Marine Drive, but it was signed as Road Closed.

Rather a lot of tar and chip out there at the moment - through Stannington/Riggs High Rd, and again on the Hope Valley road from the Bamford signals back to Hathersage. Deer on the patch between Fox House and Stony Ridge Rd.
