The third and final part of our long distance walk on the Vanguard Way. At 48km this was the longest of the three legs and also the hilliest.
We set off at 5:45 and tackled the first kilometres in the dark, with the small amount of daylight hours available in December this was the best plan.

Another early start saw us starting in thick fog as we headed North and towards the Ashdown Forest.

A cold wet and windy 7am start in Newhaven sure woke us up!
After 10km of amazing sea views we headed inland towards Alfriston, this was our first “checkpoint” and one of the few places you can get food on route. We took the time to have a short break on one of the benches and enjoy some hot drinks from
