Started Bike packing with my husband in our late 50's. We started riding the Greater Allegheny Passage (GAP) and C&O in 2017 and ride some or all of it every year since. It is a great trail for beginners especially if they camp. In 2019 we patched together parts of the Great American rail trail from Spokane to Missoula to Elkhorn Hot Springs, from there we roughly followed the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route to the Tetons. Then we rode the Trans America trail to Polaris, MT. We started taking the off road alternates and by the time we got to Elkhorn Hot Springs decided to switch to the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route. We were hooked on back road bike travel. Since then we try to get a couple of long distance bike trips every year, camping along the way whenever feasible.

Bellingham Ferry to Deception Pass CG

Beautiful trail from Bellingham Ferry to Chuckanut drive. The roads were good until we had to get on SR20. That highway was very busy and noisy. We did have a good shoulder most of the time and drivers were good,

North Tongass Highway

We rode the North Tongass Highway to Totem Bight State Park. The road was very busy. There was usually a nice shoulder and around Refuge Cove we were able to get on a bike path.

Ride from Ferry to town to Coffe shop, a park and the Totem park in Saxman, where we found out you needed to be part of a tour group to see it. We headed back and did two other museums.

Seattle to Snomish

We rode from Seattle's Pioneer Square to the American Legion Park north of Snomish. A large part of the ride was on the Burke Gilman Trail, which was paved and very nice. The roads sometimes only had a shoulder on one side and a few times no shoulder. Most drivers…

Seems like a very nice ride, especially since so much of it is on paved surfaces where cars don't travel. Are there many stretches where you have to share the road with cars?
