I run and the kids ride. This version allows a longer decent and a slightly easier climb up from the canal. It is still a slog. The kids can stick mostly to the pavement on the bikes to keep them safe. It is a footpath and cycling is not recommended on this route but as the children are little no one

This is a glorious 3mile hike with plenty of fabulous rocks to scramble over, a waterfall and a stream to play in. We had a stop at the longshaw cafe for pizza slices and wedges to warm up. Parking at the surprise view car park (not free).

Lovely flat round around the High Peak trail ideal for towing the trailer or little legs. Cafe stop at Parlsey Hay or an ice cream at Tagg lane or even a pint at the Royal Oak at hurdlow will break up the route.

Starting ay the Coppice car park in belper (free parking) a lovely but slightly muddy loop over the chevin to the Holly Bush pub in Milford where you can find some excellent ales and pork pies. We stopped for a baileys hot choc and looped back round to the car. Family friendly route nothing too taking
