Retamar is a popular holiday resort on the coast with numerous overnight accommodation options. From there I continued inland in the dark. The first destination today was the town of Tabernas. The long, steep climb in the dark made the first section difficult. However, the 30-kilometer descent down to

From Gor, the route climbs steadily up to the Calar Alto Observatory. This is located on a 2,168 meter high plateau in the middle of the Sierra de Filábres. Up here you can normally gather great impressions - unfortunately, at 3 a.m., that didn't happen for me. Instead, the long descent down to Velefique

While the race finishes in Capileira on the south side of the Sierra Nevada, this route takes you from the finish line in Capileira back to Granada via the highest pass on the continent, Pico Veleta. This ride got my heart racing, it's breathtaking and the air is pretty thin at 3,396 metres above sea level.
